AAWS Deaths Herald
AAWS Deaths Herald (Corvette) (Active)
Warship of the alliance of 110 houses (corvette Herald class)
Built 1009 CSE( common space era) she was the first of the new Herald class orbital supremacy corvettes commissioned by the HOD (House of death) serving in twenty seven wars and over three thousand two hundred and eighty two battles and many more smaller skirmishes she became part of the the legendary BG-001 (battle group 001) TF-01(task force 01) serving as the primary escort for the dreadnought RMS Godfall (SBB -327) and then during the battle of Valkyrie-09 fighting alongside the super-dreadnought HOD Deaths hand (SSBB-001)
TF-01 was a detached corvette commerce raider group led by Captain Leonidas(alias Captain Strom) aboard the Herald. On the corvettes first deployment their attached capital ships including two battle cruisers, eight heavy cruisers and eight medium to light cruisers were destroyed by attack craft raids. All higher ranking personnel were killed Leaving the escorting force of twelve destroyers and the remaining ten corvettes without capital ship support.
Making a decision Leonidas took the Herald and her sister ships RNS Ouraborus, RNS Eclipse and the destroyer HOD Eve of dissolution into an asteroid field nearby ordering the rest of the escorts to conduct rescue operations and then retreat to warn the main fleet of the ambush. Twenty two hours of waiting and repairing later a recon flight of falcon stealth fighters located the enemy carrier BG entering the system within four light minutes of the under strength task force. Leaving the destroyer-carrier in the field the corvettes and the few Raven bombers that were left headed out under stealth. Using the asteroid field to maintain cover the ships got within two hundred kilometers- almost knife fighting range for a warship and attacked. Energy weapons and the upgraded railgun slugs of the Herald class perforated the escorting battleships hull, missles that had been cold launched hours in advance powered on and bathed the area in electro magnetic energy.
The enemy battle groups exact composition is debated by both sides but it is known it consisted of two fleet carries, four light carriers, an old outdated dreadnought refitted for anti strike craft capabilities, three battleships and various support ships totaling thirty-eight warships and an estimated thirty-two cargo vessels. The corvettes first salvo knocked out all three battleships primary power sources. Missiles from bombers ripped a fleet carrier apart and before the enemy could react the corvettes where inside the formation. Twisting and weaving the enemy fleet was unable to fire for fear of hitting their own ships with every missed shot. The Heralds momentum gave her enough time to fire three full volleys before she passed the enemy formation and rocketed towards safety.
After the battle sensor readings indicated all but one light carrier were venting atmosphere and the enemy’s cargo vessels were nothing more than slowly expanding balls of dust. From thirty eight military vessels all but one carrier were confirmed destroyed or later scuttled, two battleships were rendered mission kills and one was scuttled. Ten light cruisers or smaller vessels were so heavily damaged as to be abandoned and an entire enemy battle group was forced to disengage. Herald and her small TF escaped with little damage. Eclipse took a tertiary railgun slug across her bow and lost three middle tubes, a primary railgun slug struck her number three sub reactor and damaged three gravity nodes plus two FTL stabilizers. Herald had light laser burn spread across most of her hull and several point defense nodes had been stripped off by proximity explosions. The eve of dissolution was reported MIA after a patrol flight happened across her but turned up almost thirty years later having taken FTL damage and made her way back to friendly territory at sub(82%)-light speed.
After the war ended salvage vessels and a military inquiry determined the total enemy tonnage destroyed was more then six times what Leonidas’s original battle group had lost.
Five years later on the southern border of the Alliance of 110 houses territory as part of a royal fleet task force RNS Herald would lead a preemptive strike against Gael-lar forces occupying the primitive world of Jar-el III reports of galactic law violation had filtered through naval intelligence and a small battle group was sent to order the Gael-lar to abandon the world. Sent ahead of the main force as a show of strength Herald engaged system pickets disabling one and destroying two before any alarm could be raised. Using experimental drones to mimic the enemy ships signatures, Herald delayed discovery by hours and snuck closer to the central enemy presence. Slipping through the over stretched outer system guard she reached the better defended inner system. Struggling to find a hole in the patrol patterns Herald again utilized sensor drones to trick the enemy into chasing ghosts. Avoiding detection of the first couple ships, Herald slipped through the blockade until finding her path blocked by a small flotilla of cruiser and smaller vessels.
Once again throwing convention to the wind Leonidas (Alias at the time captain Strom) dropped stealth and engaged the largest enemy ship (suspected battle cruiser but this is contested by the Gael-lar claiming it was a medium cruiser) Herald utilized new type thirty-four railgun anti matter SABOT round resulting in the creation of a gravity well for .09 seconds. Resulting cascade proved devastating as the pull from the gravity well overwhelmed the inertial dampeners of all enemy vessels within two hundred thousand kilometers. Beyond the initial vessel hit with the round two other cruisers were pulled into each other and fourteen vessels were rendered crewless.
Herald recloaked and dispatched its remaining four cloaked recon drones to mimic its drive patterns. Heading back to the FTL drop out point Herald dispatched another two corvettes that happened to catch sensor pings off damaged sections of its hull.
At 23.09 ship board time Herald was engaged by a previously unknown vessel approximately six million kilometers from fleet entry point. The crew never knew what hit them, ship war spirit(common name AI) and data recorder report nothing within four million klicks then a distortion thirty-four degrees off the port bow at a distance of four hundred thousand kilometers. War-spirit took automatic control of on board weaponry and fired a spread of all available weapons with a three thousand kilometer spread. Unknown warship engaged a dreadnought (assumption is based off of power detected in initial reading) grade FTLKL( faster then light kinetic launcher) the round punched straight through decks one through five before exploding six hundred kilometers off the warships belly, of its six hundred and twelve crew plus sixty-three marines half were KIA all survivors were declared WIA and at 23.10 ship board time war spirit designation Herald-00 took control.
Enemy warship recloaked but on board AI managed to get a hit with a secondary railgun battery disrupting the cloak long enough for a primary railgun battery to lock on and ripple off a volley of three shots. The first shot misfired and missed by mere kilometers the second and third shot hit the vessel. Naval intelligences best guess estimated a magazine hit ripped the ship apart.
At 23.15 Herald loses all power and emergency beacons are deployed
At 23.30 BG-837 transitions into the system detecting several wrecks corvettes are dispatched to check for survivors.
At 23.33 Herald is located and FMR (fleet mobile repair) Lover of Illismuth pulls herald into pressurized repair bay 03. Less then twenty five percent of the crew remain.
At 23.45 Captain Leonidas and three surviving members of the bridge crew are pulled from the wreckage.
At 25.00 Leonidas is released from the ships medical bay and is pulled into a debrief behind closed doors. Meeting details [REDACTED]
At 06.00 Leonidas is given command of battle cruiser RNS Diplomacy while FMR Lover of Illismuth repairs and upgrades RNS Deaths Herald.
Fleet OPS last a week and a half against Gael-lar forces. Despite Gael-lar numbers the difference in technology means alliance forces take minimal losses. No more unknown vessels make themselves known but the disappearance of TF-1009 a small flotilla made up of nothing larger then a light cruiser leaves fleet command unsure how many vessels might’ve been operating in the system. Primitive civilization is placed under house of life protection; system defense force established, numbers augmented by two royal navy task forces based around battleship RNS Vestroya and the new carrier CV-1809 no name earned yet. Official declaration of Primitive system as protectorate 10014 is sent to locale factions at 14.00 shipboard time in the tenth month of 1014 CSE
1016 CSE; minor flare up of raids by unknown vessels matching the readings the RNS Herald took along the southern border. Naval intelligence believe it is signs of a much larger attack brewing. At 06.00 The Crown prince officially declares a state of war. The first war fleet slips its moorings around the royal homeworld at 12:00 hours. Approximately fourteen thousand warships plus many thousands more various fleet support, medical, food, water and fuel transports begin a three week journey to the edge of alliance space. All royal navy, army and marine forces across alliance space are placed on high alert. All household forces are required to be ready for combat at a moments notice.
Three weeks six days after deployment the first War fleet begins staging at MFC Star fort (mobile fleet command) Bastion of solitude. Set approximately sixteen million kilometers outside system FOB-1118. FOB-1118 is the farthest system an alliance exploratory vessel had ever gone to the galactic south. RNS Deaths Herald and the sixteen ships that made up ADVREC-DESRON one(Advance recon destroyer division one) had been patrolling nearby systems looking for possible enemy contacts, three had been spotted two by the Herald herself and one by HOD Raptor all had been destroyed. Secondary detonations suggest enemy warships have a fail safe device to keep intel out of enemy hands. Three of Heralds sister ships had gone missing and were presumed DIA with all hands. MFC Bastion of Solitude ordered all Herald class ships to repair and upgrade bays before re-engaging enemy forces.
At 08:00 Captain Leonidas was called into the conference room aboard Bastion. The fleets admirals, vice-admirals and commodores where also called to meeting. Details unknown, results [REDACTED]
At 12:00 hours lead scouting forces were deployed, all ships were ordered to dock and receive an extra complement of navy marines.
At 12:30 Herald was the first ship underway joined by three other corvettes of various classes, RNS Invincible, HOD Glimpse of Fate, HOL Serenity. Engaging advanced stealth drives the ships, designated TF-001.1 slipped into the black vanishing from all sensors.
Six weeks after deployment with only minor skirmishes against enemy vessels in three different systems, Herald jumped half a million miles outside of the gravity zone of system designation 3-0-1-0. Immediately passive sensors detected enough electro magnetic energy to overwhelm even the war spirit. It took approximately fourteen hours for all four ships to parse the data and get accurate accounts on what they where seeing. The first glimpse of the system revealed wreckage everywhere; sensor scans indicated most were unarmed transports but drones found weapons on at least three hundred ships. In the inner system was a fleet battle the likes of which the alliance hadn’t seen since its civil war nearly a thousand years ago. Thousands of unknown warships wove through the outskirts of a maelstrom of energy. Even readings from the HOL Serenity’s more advanced sensor suite struggled to pick out individual warships amongst the chaos.
Aboard Herald, Leonidas ordered the mass deployment of drones to attempt better readings. Already message drones where being fired back towards the fleet. Heralds computers recognized neither side but the attackers matched the sensor readings and designs they had seen from previous attacks.
corvette taking on a entire enemy battle group with three other ships in an asteroid field the RNS Eclipse was destroyed tricking a enemy battleship and its escorts into a nuclear minefield and the captain Archimedes went down with the ship. Captain Bell of the RNS ouraborus rammed and boarded another enemy capital ship turning its guns on its allies before he was overwhelmed by ship security and detonated a nuclear device on board. RNS Death herald (my ship) took on a dreadnought and when it tried to jump away its FTL drive was hit still triggering but knocking them out of FTL in the void between systems
An ailing and slightly outdated corvette she was damaged in transit to an unknown world. Her crew were forced into cryostasis for an unknown amount of time. Thawing damage means most of the crew has no idea who or where they are and have joined ARMCO’s roving fleets looking for a new life
